About Frederica

Frederica Wooten, Licensed Professional Counselor

Hello, I am Frederica (Fred-air-ika). I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, as well as, an advocate for mental health and wellness. My clinical focus addresses fear, sadness, and trauma. I am a nationally-certified provider of cognitive processing therapy for trauma and PTSD. I use many different treatment modalities and am a huge advocate for self-care and coping skills. I work to identify best practices for your healing.

I worked in social services and community mental health, assisting clients with criminal, psychosocial, and substance abuse recovery needs. I saw in my home and in the Black community the struggle to overcome painful experiences. I did not always know why these issues occurred, but I found my way to individuals in personal crisis and wanted to help. This was a major deciding factor in studying and pursuing professional counseling. It led me to my purpose: Serving and walking with individuals through pain into joy, love, and peace.

Helping clients through life’s challenges and experiences has been most rewarding. I engage clients in welcoming environments where they are free to express themselves and develop a rapport. As the daughter of parents who experienced mental health challenges, I understand the struggle from the family member's perspective and the clinician’s perspective. This allows me to empathize in greater ways as I work with clients to develop, implement, and support their desired changes.

Frederica Wooten, Licensed Professional Counselor at Journey To Grace Counseling

I am very relatable with great listening skills and working with me will often feel like a healing conversation. We will laugh and sometimes cry; I do not shy away from the expression of emotion as it is my goal to assist the client in unveiling wholeness. In doing this, I will empower the client to live freely while giving them skills to implement so they can thrive in their daily lives.

I think we are all uniquely different and of one large body. It is important to me to honor the differences among us. Cultural, societal, and economical differences make us individuals among many. It is my goal to respect and honor diversity while creating a safe space to explore in a co-learning environment. A person-centered approach is the modality I use to build and maintain a welcoming and safe environment. As a woman and minority, I recognize that diversity, equity, and inclusion are not often seen and/or celebrated in the mental health community.

I hope to be a light for those seeking support in the context of their unique lives in an environment uniquely designed to serve them.

My client focus areas are adults (25+) and elders (65+). I offer individual, couples, and group therapy. My speciality areas are trauma, PTSD, relationship issues, and depression.

My expertise is:

  • Anger Management
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar Disorder
